Swim Gala- Friday October 2nd
We hope you all can join us at the CCAB swimming centre on Evans Road for our annual Swim Gala. Raffles, Newton, Orchard and Somerset will all be competing for house points given during swim competitions and pool games. We ask that each parent or guardian read the information contained in the document below carefully. Parents and guardians must indicate via the online form contained within the document their child's travel plans for the day.
Haze at Swim Gala- The haze has had a significant impact on our school activities over the past several weeks. If the PSI level is elevated on October 2nd, several alternatives will be considered including but not limited to: waiting to see if the situation improves or cancelling the event and having a full day of school on the Paterson Campus. I will be posting a message on ManageBac between 6:00 -6:30am on October 2nd to let families know if our plans will be changed for the day. Please make sure you check your email early on Friday!
Our annual International Day (formerly called UN Day/ Night) has been transformed! This year I'm excited to be able to share with you that we will celebrate this event as a whole school during the school day. It's wonderful that we will be able to celebrate our international community with all students and families in one event. We hope this enhances the sense of community and family spirit we all feel at ISS. Parents are warmly invited to attend.
The timetable for the day is as follows:
8:00-8:50: Students arrive at school as normal and go to their homerooms. Students should come to school wearing clothes that reflect their cultural identity.
9:00- 9:30 Students join their nationality groups in preparation for the Parade of Nations
9:30- 10:20: Parade of Nations. Parents are warmly invited to attend and can sit in a large tent on the field to see the Parade
10:30-10:50 - Morning Snack Break
11:00-12:00 - Students perform in and visit Art Performance/Workshops conducted by Middle and High School students.
12:15-1:15 MS Classes visit Intercultural Workshops run by High School Students.
12:15-1:15 - Parents setting up International Food Fair
1:20-2:15 - International Food Fair: Elementary Students on the Basketball Court. Middle and High School Students on the Field
2:25 - Dismissal with parents or buses. Parents please make sure that you have informed your child's teacher how they will be going home.
Students will be eating a good quantity of food during the International Food Fair. Past experience has proven that there is plenty of food at the event to fill even the most ravenous student! Your child may, however, wish to bring a small snack for morning break.
If you would like to help with the International Day by preparing a dish or some finger-food from your home country, we would certainly appreciate it. If you do choose to send in food, please plan to deliver dish size portions for up to 15 students. Alternatively, just come along and enjoy the experience!
Students may bring the food dish with them in the morning and place them in refrigerators or in air conditioned homerooms. Please do not send dishes that will require heating or cooking. Alternatively, parents can bring dishes in at 12:15pm. Please place food in disposable containers or clearly label the container and lid with the student’s name to ensure it is not misplaced or goes unclaimed. Additionally, because of the different dietary needs of our students we would ask that you label the dish as vegetarian, gluten free, contains meat, contains pork, contains shellfish, or contains nuts. We will be setting aside several tables for students with specific food allergies. If you are interested in preparing food for this event, please contact Serene Chin at email@example.com or the PTA at PTA@iss.edu.sg.
We look forward to seeing each of you at this wonderful community event.
